JETS vs San Diego
Here the JETS get no help from the schedule makers (or the football gods) as they are on the road against a team that is 0 - 2 coming off two last minute defeats (the second of which was taken away on a terrible call).
Well, no one said it would be easy...
This predictaion is more from my heart than my head but..........
Prediction: JETS: 27 - Chargers: 24

Fired Up In San Diego
Chargers have been the victim of TWO last second comebacks (last week's "blown" call was the
dagger). However, this is a team that's faced tougher challenges than an 0 - 2 start. Rivers is
a little bit of a hot head, and may not make all the right throws, but he knows that his team needs
this win at home. I don't think Rivers will try many deep throws, but when he does complete them
they should go for six against the Jets (he has 6 tds and only 1 interception btw!). Tomlinson and
Sproles are huge weapons, though they might be able to contain them at the line of scrimmage
(Jets D line has looked good), if they come out of the backfield for flats or quick slants the Jets will
have no answer. Plus, Sproles proved himself as a threat to run it back every time on special teams.
The Jets are still looking to make a statement, and personally I can't see that happening. Farve is
a good QB, but he just doesn't have the talent around him that he had in Green Bay. The Chargers
defense is fast and aggressive, and though Merriman is gone the fact that this is a home Monday
Night game after two devasting loses, the D will be pumped. They only have 1 sack in the first two
games, but I have a feeling that will change after this week's game.
Nothing more to really say about this one, it looks pretty straight forward to me: Jets don't have
the offensive or defensive weapons to keep up with a team that is looking to bounce back on the
big stage. 38 - 10 Chargers.

Count on 1-2 after this one
Monday, September 15, 2008
Not so fast, Jets....
this week's loss and the Bills big win in Jacksonville? This was another sloppy Jets game, but this
time against a better defense than Miami's with not much room for error. Like I said, Cassel just
needed to manage, which he did, though he didn't impress me much otherwise (though he didn't
turn the ball over; again, another key to the Patriots winning these types of games).
Overall, the Pats offense didn't look that strong, and it looks like the offensive line forgot how to
block now that Brady is gone. I can't take away from the Jets D line though, which did really look like
the strongest part of the entire team. If it weren't for the pass rush and the fact that the Pats were
held to 100 total yards rushing (Maroney with only 16 of those) the game would have been
much harder to watch for Jet fans.
Once again, Farve throws the costly interception! It seems to happen in almost every "big" game
he plays in (though it is only the 2nd game, the Jets did have something to prove against an
ailing Pats team). The turnover led to the only Pats touchdown, and ultimately proved to be too
big of a lead to overcome. Also, Mangini, why run three straight times inside the 5 and settle
for a field goal when you have the almighty Farve at the helm? Play action? Bootleg? Something
other than three identical runs? This guy's decisions are really boggling my mind.
Next week the Jets meet their first huge obstacle in the Chargers, a team that could easily be 2-0
if we take away two last second comebacks in two consecutive weeks. These guys are going
to be angry and playing as hard as they can at home on Monday Night, and I don't think there's
really any chance for the Jets to win that game after watching them play schoolyard football for the
past two weeks.
Some things never change
After all the money that was spent to upgrade the offense, especially the line, it is clear that this group of players is only interested in there contracts. How do you take 3 shots at the endzone from 1 yard out and not score???? I do not understand why the backs ran straight into the line. Did these guys ever see a Walter Payton, or Emmet Smith, or even a Curtis Martin highlight film??? Dive over the pile and get in the endzone!!!!! It is that simple!!! But that would mean giving an effort!!! It is time that the Jets stopped trying to take the easy route and work a bit. You have a gunslinger as your quarterback, why not get his attempts up to the 30 to 35 range??? Oh, that's right, the overpaid offensive line would have to block then!!!
The better teams in the league score when they reach the red zone. The Jets, kick or miss field goals, and fail to gain a yard on multiple attempts.
Jets fans, it's going to be a long season of the same old stuff!!! We deserve better.

Game of the Week
will be interested in (Chargers, Colts - will they go 0 - 2?), but this match up is not only a big division
rivalry but also the first true test for both sides.
Belichick will have to rely on Cassel to MANAGE the game, not necessarily WIN the game like Brady
used to do. The weapons around Cassel will have to step up big time (Moss, Maroney, Welker) in
order for the Pats to have a chance. As long as Cassel doesn't turn the ball over, then I would
consider it a successful start. Defensively, the Pats aren't very young, but they are
experienced. They need to get so pressure on Farve and rattle him a bit; make him force his throws
and get a couple of turnovers out of it.
The Jets will have to double Moss all game and try to make Cassel spread the ball around. In order
for that to work, though, they will have to stuff Maroney, because he will be getting a lot more
carries. If they can control the run, they should be able to win the game. And of course, Farve
will have to show some real veteran leadership against a veteran defense, and no chucking it
up into the end zone, please.
I honestly believe that Cassel, with the weapons around him, and the fact that he has been in
New England for so long and is comfortable with the plays, will be able to get a few nice drives
going. 200 some yards and 2 tds will do the trick, as long as there aren't any interceptions. Look
for Farve/Mangini to try to do too much early, and possibly pay for it with a costly turnover.
Final score- 24 - 20 Patriots.

Maybe without Brady this becomes a better game?
I'm no Jets fan and I certainly don't wish injury on any player or team, but the loss of Tom Brady might make some of these division games a little more interesting and closer this year. And that's not a bad thing.
This week will tell. I still think the guys from New England are better players and better coached, so Bretty Favre notwithstanding, I predict a field goal margin victory for the Patriots.

JETS vs PATS
However, as Bret Farve said earlier this week "Tom Brady dosen't play on Defence"....so the JETS Offense will have to be at their best.
Still, as it is the home opener, and all the stars seem to be in sync............lets hope..........
Prediction: JETS 24 Patriots 17

Here come the Patriots
It will be interesting to see the Jets and Bills showdown, but don't look past the Patriots. New England is a strong team, and if there new QB plays within the system, the Patriots will be deadly. Expect the Patriots to slow down the passing game and be more balanced on offense. Going back 2 years ago, the Patriots offense ran pretty much even on run vs pass plays.
Also, Cassel played with the first team all of the pre season. The offense is comfortable with him, and if he continues to play with in the system, New England is going to be a force to deal with.
The Jets need to step up the offense and take advantage of all scoring opportunities. They must get into the red zone on all positions and come away with points. The Jets can not allow the Patriots to hang around like the Dolphins. If the Jets do allow the game to be close in the 4th quarter, unlike the Dolphins, the Patriots will win the ball game.
It is time for Brett and the rest of the Jets to earn there money, and earn the respect of the rest of the league. They must win this game at all costs. This game will set the tone for the remainder of the season. I know it is only week 2, but it is the Patriots. The way your earn respect is to knock off the defending AFC East Champions, and stop there undefeted streak.
Week 2.......Patriots.........LETS GO J_E_T_S, JETS< JETS< JETS!!!!!
Now that Brady's out, who needs Farve?
terrible up until the 4th quarter when they seemed to get into some type of rhythm both offensively
and defensively. Pennington's touch pass (almost picked because it was floating) to Martin brought
them within striking distance after Nugent's injury had Mangini making some interesting coaching
decisions (one which worked out on Farve's lucky school-yard-type lob pass to Stuckey).
On the Jet's last drive of the game, Mangini surprisingly opts to run on 3rd and 7 rather than try and
complete a pass with his new QB. I just don't get that, and in the coming weeks they better be
a little more aggressive than that or they'll have a tough time winning this now wide open division
with Brady's knee injury (how crazy is that, by the way? I still can't believe it).
Pennington led a nice little drive, but it was thwarted by a nice catch by Revis. You gotta be more
aggressive Ginn Jr.! If you're going to get called for interference at least get another down out
of it rather than letting him intercept it! Jeez.
Overall, this game was way too close for the Jets. Sorry Jet fans, but winning 20 -14 against
arguably the worst team in the NFL means NOTHING! However, Farve did have one legit touchdown
pass, the run game looked decent, and overall the team looked okay. I wish they could have a bigger
test next weekend, but hey, maybe it will be with Cassel at the helm. Brady didn't play until
Bledsoe was injured, right? Oh and Farve, you may have impressed Jet fans, but you've still got
a lot of work to do my friend.
Another Season
My major issue is that the Jets still do not put people away! The play calling became conservative in the second hald and the Jets continue not to put teams away. Once they get a lead, they coast and place to much stress on there defense. When they have a team on the ropes, they need to finish them off. Leave no doubt!
The defense has yet to step up and be able to get a consistant pass rush on the quarterback. They get out of Miami with a win, but Chad almost made the Jets pay dearly in the last 5 minutes!
Next up, New England!!!
JETS 1 - 0
The JETS won their opener, but for a game they appeard to have in hand it still came down to the final few seconds with a chance to lose. A lot of missed opportunities, poor offensive line play, and a crutial fumble in the red zone, really left you with a bad feeling at the end of the game..
But, a win is a win, and we will take it. The longer Bret Farve plays the better he and his receivers will start to jell. Ditto for the offensive line...ditto for the secondary...
Good game for Thomas Jones.......Good game for Bret Farve...and a very hugh thank you to Mr. Revis..........
Oh and by the way, can we spend the week looking for a kicker.................

Broadway Brett Ready for the Pressure?
Well, what about Brett Farve then? Yes, he owns all the the passing records, INCLUDING PICKS. But, in recent history (other than last year, of course) the Packers weren't looking so hot in a pretty easy division (though the Bears D was looking good for a little while). Plus, Brett can no longer handle the pressure of the playoffs (the horrible game against the Rams a few years ago, the game ending interception against the G Men last year), so how can he possibly handle the pressure of the New York media? Sure they love him now, but let him lost this first game or maybe two in a row during the season and they will rip him apart like a pack of wild dogs.
This game in Miami is a MUST WIN for Brett and his Jets. They are the most watched team in the nation right now with their Farve acquisition, while the Dolphins have no where to go but up after a one win season last year. The Dolphins don't look very strong, but Brown and Williams in the backfield may cause some trouble if they are 100%. Chad in my opinion has never been a real good QB, but he knows the defense having played on the Jets and maybe his little 5 yard passes will do something today.
The Jets SHOULD win this game, but only if Brett is comfortable, which he may not be. I'll say 20 - 17 Jets, although it could be a larger margin if the fish can't get the run game going. Personally, I think it would make a great story to see the Dolphins win this first game and put a whole bunch of pressure on Brett and the organization.
I wish we could get more media coverage of the Brett Favre story ... NOT!
As a long time resident of South Florida and beleagured Dolphins season ticket holder, I feel the greatest thing that could happen this opening week is that the most obnoxious fans in the country (Jet fans from New York transplanted in Florida) get disappointed by Captain Whiner flopping in his debut.
Probably won't happen, but it would be nice.

Brett and the Jets seek to take off in season opener in Miami
Favre will no doubt be motivated to make the Packers regret trading him. With that said, do not even think for a second that the Jets are automatically Super Bowl bound. A lot of things to consider:
1. New System- It would be hard for any quarterback in this league, and that includes Favre himself, to be at ease with new terminoligy and new strategy when with a new team. Even Favre said that he had to adjust his thinking about the nuances of the system. He has not had much time to fully digest all of it, so it would be no surprise if he struggled early.
2. The Pats- Until dethroned, the New England Patriots are the best team in the division and maybe the AFC. Favre and the Jets will get an early test against the Pats, when the Pats visit the Jets in week 2. The Jets have not beaten the Pats at home in eight years, so this game could set the barometer for the season.
3. The AFC as a whole- Even though the current super bowl champ resides in the NFC, this is still the best conference in football. Teams like the Pats, Colts, Jaguars, Chargers, and the Steelers can all make a case at making a run to the superbowl. It will be very difficult for the Jets to keep pace if they do not buind a long winning streak. They will not make the playoffs if they do not beat the teams they should beat, like this week in Miami.
As for the game, expect Pennington to be very motivated to show the Jets up and keep it close. If running back Ricky Williams keeps the Jets on their toes they can pull this one out. But the Jets will use a late drive by Favre to put Miami away....barely.

JETS vs Miami
J-E-T-S BRET...BRET...BRET...
Here's to the long awaited JETS opener...the one that we waited all off season for....even Chad will be there..
Prediction: JETS: 24 Miami: 10
Start the season off right
Watch for a close on 21-17 Jets as Brett gets his first bad interception in the red zone.
